„My photograph, Vienna, 1952
We have lost the true relationship to the earth on which we move in that we have distanced ourselves from it, sit on chairs etc., and whenever possible get rid of cracks that form in the sidewalk, even though they are the surviving bridges connecting us to the actual soil. For the photo I had the girl, a Viennese mannequin, lie down on the sidewalk, so as to illustrate most clearly the interrelationships between the human being and sidewalk crack and sewer grate. And in any case people lying down are closest to the earth.” (Hundertwasser, 1952)
